Asuwayama Park is a harmonious blend of nature and history located on Asuwayama, a 116.4m-high mountain in the heart of Fukui City. In spring, 3,500 cherry blossoms—part of the "Top 100 Cherry Blossom Viewing Spots in Japan"—create a breathtaking spectacle, with nighttime cherry blossom viewing offering a magical experience. Early summer brings a vibrant display of hydrangeas, Fukui City's official flower, transforming the park into a kaleidoscope of colors.
Asuwayama boasts the statue of Emperor Keitai, who laid the foundation for Fukui, and over a dozen ancient burial mounds (kofun), making it a captivating destination for history buffs. The park also offers a rich array of cultural facilities, including the Tachibana Akaru Memorial Literary Museum, the Atago-zaka Tea Ceremony Museum, and the Natural History Museum on Atago-zaka, allowing visitors to explore history and culture while enjoying a leisurely stroll.
Furthermore, the Asuwayama Park Amusement Park, renovated in September 2018, features a mini-zoo where you can interact with adorable animals such as capybaras and alpacas. Children will delight in spending time with these friendly creatures. The park also boasts a field athletic course and various play equipment, providing fun for both children and adults.
Asuwayama Park is a true haven, a perfect fusion of nature, history, and recreation. Be sure to visit when you're in Fukui City!
