A breathtaking spot boasting stunning gorge scenery stretching approximately 6km along the upper reaches of the Dogoyama River.
Located in the upper reaches of the Dogoyama River, flowing through Shikokuchuo City, Tomisato Gorge is a popular tourist spot where you can fully enjoy the diverse beauty of the gorge and the majestic nature. The gorge's symbol, the "Modorigatake" rock face, exceeding 60 meters in height, captivates visitors with its overwhelming scale. Hardy trees such as Akamatsu (red pine) and Iwahhiba (rock false cypress) take root in the crevices of the rock, creating a landscape that resembles a traditional Japanese painting. A walking path is maintained within the gorge, allowing you to stroll through the abundant nature. Further upstream from Modorigatake along the old road, you'll find many attractions, including the Tomisato Campground and the Fujiwara Bridge. Under the right-bank abutment of the Fujiwara Bridge, you can see the giant Sarutobi pot hole, formed over many years by the strong current of the Dogoyama River. In autumn, the gorge is ablaze with vibrant autumn leaves, further enhancing the already magnificent scenery. During the autumn foliage season, it's bustling with many tourists and photographers. Tomisato Gorge is a highly recommended spot to experience the power and beauty of nature firsthand. Be sure to visit!
