Overview

Nakazu Valley is located in Niyodogawa-cho, Kochi Prefecture, in the upper reaches of the Nakazu River, a tributary of the Niyodogawa River originating in the Shikoku Mountains. This grand water forest has been carved out over many years by rain falling on Nakazu Myojin Mountain. Numerous waterfalls of varying sizes, ponds, and unique rock formations are scattered throughout, captivating visitors with their beauty. A well-maintained walking path stretches approximately 2.3km from the valley entrance to "Ishibashira" (Stone Pillars), the rock formations at the headwaters of the Nakazu River, offering a close-up experience of the valley during your stroll. The valley boasts stunning greenery in spring, refreshing breezes in summer, breathtaking autumn foliage that paints the entire valley in vibrant colors, and beautiful snowy landscapes in winter. Several highlights await within Nakazu Valley: Momiji-no-taki (Maple Falls) is a roughly 10m-high waterfall, particularly beautiful during autumn. Uryu-no-taki (Uryu Falls) is approximately 15m high, offering a refreshing mist. Ryugu-buchi (Dragon Palace Pond) is a pond with beautifully deep green water. Ishibashira (Stone Pillars) are rock formations at the headwaters of the Nakazu River. Nakazu Valley is also home to "Nakazu Keikoku Yu no Mori," a hot spring resort with lodging.
