Learn about the history of the Yubaraze Forest Railway, which once transported lumber, through exhibits and materials.
The Yubaraze Forest Railway was built in the early Showa period and was abandoned shortly after the war. It once transported lumber, supporting the local industry, but is now defunct, with only remnants remaining to evoke its past. Mori no Eki Yanase, utilizing a former station building, was established to preserve the history of the Yubaraze Forest Railway. Here, you can see exhibits of period vehicles, photographs, and documents, learning in detail how the forest railway transported lumber. Videos depicting the railway's operational days are also shown. Adjacent to Mori no Eki Yanase is a spacious plaza surrounded by vast forests. Equipped with playground equipment for children and benches for relaxation, it's a perfect spot for families. Enjoying lunch in the plaza or taking a forest bath is highly recommended. Mori no Eki Yanase also features a souvenir corner selling local products from Umaji Village. Famous for its yuzu (citrus) fruits, Umaji Village's yuzu-based products and other locally produced goods are available for purchase. This is a recommended spot for those seeking respite from the urban hustle and bustle to enjoy nature and for those interested in the history of forest railways.
