The Statues of the Three Patriots of the Tosa Kinnoto stand in Kochi Ryoba Square in Kita-honmachi, Kochi City, Kochi Prefecture. These bronze statues depict Takechi Hanpeita, Sakamoto Ryoma, and Nakaoka Shintarou, three prominent figures from the Tosa domain. Erected in 2011 as a centerpiece of the prefecture's tourism campaign, 'Shikoku Kochi: Ryoma's Homeland Festival,' each patriot dedicated their lives to reforming the Tosa domain and shaping Japan's future, leaving their mark on history. Takechi Hanpeita led the Tosa Kinnoto, striving for domain reform, but was later captured and executed by the shogunate. Sakamoto Ryoma, organizing the Kaientai, played a pivotal role in the tumultuous end of the Edo period, successfully brokering the Satcho Alliance. However, he was assassinated in Kyoto at the young age of 31. Nakaoka Shintarou, Ryoma's close friend, worked alongside him to build a brighter future for Japan, but tragically died before realizing his ambitions after Ryoma's death.
