Godaisan Park is a beautifully landscaped park near the summit of Mount Godaisan, providing spectacular views of Kochi City. At 146 meters above sea level, Mount Godaisan has long been a sacred site, and its peak is home to Chikurin-ji Temple, the 31st temple on the Shikoku Pilgrimage. Founded by Kūkai, the great Buddhist monk, the temple features a serene atmosphere with centuries-old cedar trees. The park also features the Kochi Prefectural Makino Botanical Garden, a tribute to the world-renowned botanist, Dr. Tomitaro Makino. This garden showcases approximately 3,500 plant species, offering a vibrant display of seasonal blooms. You can also explore Dr. Makino's former home and a memorial museum, offering a glimpse into the world of botany. Godaisan Park is a captivating place where nature and culture intertwine. From the observatory, you can enjoy breathtaking views of Kochi City and the Pacific Ocean. The park is especially stunning during cherry blossom season, when the mountain is awash in pink. At night, the glittering cityscape of Kochi creates a breathtaking and romantic atmosphere. Godaisan Park offers a full day of enjoyment – nature walks during the day and nighttime city views.
