Shimane Marine Museum Aquas, affectionately known as Aquas, opened on April 15, 2000 in Hamada City, Shimane Prefecture. It's one of the largest aquariums in the Chugoku and Shikoku regions.
With the concept of "From the Sea of Shimane to the Sea of Japan, and then to the Seas of the World," Aquas showcases approximately 10,000 marine creatures of about 400 species.
Aquas' highlight is its unique beluga whale bubble ring performance, the only one of its kind in Western Japan. Divers blow air into rings, which the playful belugas then chase and manipulate, delighting visitors.
You can also get up close with a variety of marine life, including hammerhead sharks and giant manta rays.
The penguin enclosure features four species: king penguins, gentoo penguins, rockhopper penguins, and Humboldt penguins. Their adorable antics provide endless hours of heartwarming entertainment.
Aquas is an aquarium that offers both education and enjoyment for visitors of all ages, providing opportunities to learn about marine life and ocean environments. Be sure to visit!
