Overview

Shimizu Daishi-ji Temple is a Koyasan Shingon sect temple located in Onsenzu-cho, Ohda City, Shimane Prefecture. Associated with Kobo Daishi, it's renowned for its spiritual blessings bestowed upon women. From the temple grounds, you can enjoy panoramic views of the majestic Sea of Japan and the townscape of Onsenzu. The sunsets are particularly beautiful, making it a favorite among photography enthusiasts. The temple also features a temple cafe and shukubo (temple lodging) for a relaxing experience. Shimizu Daishi-ji Temple boasts a rich history. Tradition holds that in 812 (Kōnin 3), Kobo Daishi, while traveling throughout the country, visited this site and established a small temple at the foot of Dodo-yama mountain, enshrining Kannon Bosatsu. Later, in 1301 (Shōan 3), it is said that a temple building was erected by Shōson Hōshi to commemorate the souls of those who perished during the battles over the Iwami Ginzan silver mine. Shimizu Daishi-ji Temple is also known as the 31st temple of the Iwami Mandala Kannon Reijo and the 21st temple of the Chugoku Jizo Reijo, attracting many worshippers. In recent years, the temple cafe and shukubo have become increasingly popular, making it a beloved spot for both tourists and locals.
