Overview

Koeiden Garden is a pond garden (ike-no-niwa) in the Nishinomaru (western enclosure) of Wakayama Castle, built during the Edo period. It's said to have been created by the warlord Ueda Shigeyasu (Soke) when the Asano clan ruled Kishu, lending it a rich historical atmosphere. Open to the public free of charge, it's an easily accessible spot for a relaxing stroll, offering beautiful scenery throughout the year. Spring brings a riot of cherry blossoms, early summer showcases vibrant greenery, autumn paints the maples a fiery red, and winter offers snowy landscapes. The meticulous landscaping, from the ponds and stonework to the trees, is soothing to the soul, offering new discoveries with each visit. The garden also features a teahouse and rest areas, perfect for unwinding. If you visit Wakayama Castle, be sure to explore Koeiden Garden.
