Osaka Castle's history begins with Toyotomi Hideyoshi's unification of Japan. He built the castle in 1583 and used it as a base to achieve his ambition. After Tokugawa Ieyasu unified Japan, Osaka Castle came under his control. In 1603, Ieyasu renovated the castle, shaping it into the structure we see today.
Despite several battles and fires throughout its history, the castle keep was rebuilt in 1931 and continues to be cherished as a symbol of Osaka.
