Nezame-no-toko, located in Kamimatsu-cho, Kiso-gun, Nagano Prefecture, is a stunning natural wonder formed by the Kiso River's erosion of granite over countless years. As a landmark of the Kiso Road, it has captivated travelers for centuries. In spring, the area is ablaze with cherry blossoms, creating a tranquil scene alongside the river's gentle murmur. Autumn brings breathtakingly beautiful foliage as the mountains across the river are painted in vibrant hues. Nezame-no-toko’s ever-changing beauty ensures that every visit is a fresh experience. The area is also steeped in the legend of Urashima Tarō. The tale of Urashima Tarō opening his treasure box here after returning from Ryugu-jo (the Dragon Palace) adds to Nezame-no-toko's mystical ambiance. While visiting Nezame-no-toko, be sure to check out Rinkōji Temple as well. Rinkōji Temple preserves the legend of Urashima Tarō at Nezame-no-toko, and offers stunning views of the gorge from its observation deck. The admission fee is 200 yen. Several restaurants and souvenir shops are located around Nezame-no-toko, making it a perfect place for a leisurely stroll.
