Tsumago-juku is known for its exceptionally well-preserved townscape, one of the most beautiful along the Kiso Road. During the Edo period, it thrived as a major transportation hub where the Nakasendo and Ina Kaido roads intersected, bustling with travelers. Even after losing its function as a post town, the townscape has been meticulously preserved thanks to the strong preservation efforts of its residents. Now designated as an Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings, it's a popular tourist spot where visitors can enjoy a historical stroll.
There are many ways to enjoy exploring Tsumago-juku. You can savor the atmosphere of Edo-era travelers by strolling along the cobblestone streets, carefully examine the charming traditional townhouses and historical buildings, or relax at souvenir shops and cafes at your own pace.
