Takato Castle Ruins Park, renowned as a prime cherry blossom viewing spot in spring, offers breathtaking views of 1,500 Takato-kohigan cherry trees in full bloom.
Overview
Takato Castle Ruins Park is located in Ina City, Nagano Prefecture, and is a park developed on the site of Takato Castle, which retains the atmosphere of the Warring States period. In spring, 1,500 Takato-kohigan cherry trees burst into bloom, enveloping the castle in a vibrant pink hue. The Takato-kohigan cherry, a variety predominantly planted in Takato Castle Ruins Park, boasts delicate pink blossoms. This cherry tree variety blooms earlier than others, reaching its peak from early April to early May. Selected as one of Japan's top 100 cherry blossom spots, Takato Castle Ruins Park attracts many tourists during the cherry blossom season.
Within the park, you can also find Takato-kaku, a registered tangible cultural property, as well as a merchant's gate and a drum tower relocated from the former castle town, offering glimpses into the region's history. Takato-kaku, built in the Meiji era, currently serves as a rest area and information center. The relocated merchant's gate and drum tower evoke the ambiance of Takato Castle during its heyday.
Takato Castle Ruins Park offers beautiful scenery throughout the year, from the cherry blossoms in spring to the autumn foliage. Well-maintained walking paths provide visitors with pleasant strolling opportunities.
