Oyama Jinja Shrine's origins trace back to when Lord Maeda Toshiie, the Kaga clan lord, enshrined his ancestor, Lord Toshinaga. Subsequent clan lords were also enshrined, leading to its veneration as Kanazawa's ujigami (local guardian deity) to this day. The grounds boast numerous highlights, including the "Fufu-sha" (Couple Shrine) dedicated to Lord Toshiie and his wife, Matsu; the "Hanso-sha" (Clan Founder Shrine) honoring the ancestors of the Kaga clan; the "Hakusan Jinja" (Hakusan Shrine), the Kaga clan's tutelary deity; and a statue of Lord Toshiie commemorating his achievements.
