Located in Annaka City, Gunma Prefecture, Megane Bridge, officially known as the Usui Third Bridge, is a remarkable four-arch brick bridge spanning the Usui River. Completed in 1893, it served as an iconic symbol of the Abt system railway that traversed Usui Pass. Its captivating beauty stems from the graceful curves of its brick arches harmoniously integrated with the surrounding natural landscape. From the bridge, you can enjoy panoramic views of the flowing Usui River and the lush greenery of the mountains, offering a truly awe-inspiring blend of nature and history. Megane Bridge is designated as an Important Cultural Property as part of the Usui Pass railway facilities, highlighting its significant historical value. While once carrying trains, it's now part of the "Apto no Michi," a beautifully maintained walking path. The Apto no Michi is a trail following the old Usui Pass railway line, including Megane Bridge. Stretching approximately 5.9km, it allows visitors to enjoy nature while immersing themselves in history. Along the way, you'll encounter remnants of the past, such as old tunnels and abandoned railway tracks. Megane Bridge is a particularly popular spot along the Apto no Michi.
