Kegonotouge is a mountain pass located on the border between Takayama Village, Kamitakai District, Nagano Prefecture, and Tsumagoi Village, Agatsuma District, Gunma Prefecture. At an elevation of 1,823 meters, it marks the end of the impassable section of Gunma Prefectural Road and Nagano Prefectural Road 112 (Omae-Susaka Line). It also serves as a point crossing the central watershed. Kegonotouge is known as a breathtaking spot offering a 360-degree panoramic view. The surreal beauty of a sunset on a clear day, with the sky and mountains painted in shades of orange, is truly awe-inspiring. Around the pass, you'll find the remains of the Kogushi mine, where sulfur was once mined, and well-maintained hiking trails, making it a great place to enjoy nature. The Kogushi mine operated from the Meiji to Showa eras (late 19th to late 20th century) and closed in 1971. Access to parts of the mine ruins is now restricted.
