Odashirogahara

Overview

Odashirogahara is a wetland located within Nikko National Park in Nikko City, Tochigi Prefecture, situated west of Senjogahara. At an altitude of approximately 1405m to 1430m, it's a vast grassland surrounded by a Mizunara oak forest. Odashirogahara is a rare grassland area boasting characteristics of both wetland and grassland, offering breathtaking views throughout the year. In spring, the melting snow reveals fresh, vibrant green shoots. Summer brings a riot of color with flowers such as Buttercup, Spirea japonica, and Nikko thistle. Autumn paints the mountain in fiery reds and yellows with the yellowing leaves of the Mizunara oaks and the colorful foliage of the grasses. Winter blankets the landscape in a serene and tranquil snow-covered world. The perimeter of Odashirogahara is well-maintained with boardwalks, making it easy to navigate and suitable for families with young children. A single white birch tree, known as the "Lady of Odashirogahara," stands gracefully in the middle of the grassland, captivating visitors with its beauty.
