Overview

Koudouzan Jouinji Temple is a Jodo sect temple founded during the Kamakura period. It flourished as the family temple of the Hosokawa clan, the Utsunomiya feudal lords. The temple grounds feature a main hall, a priest's residence (kuri), a bell tower, and gardens, each with its own unique charm. The main hall, in particular, is impressively imposing with its sturdy construction. The gardens offer beautiful seasonal views that soothe the soul. The tranquil atmosphere of the temple grounds provides a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. Take your time to stroll through and experience the history and tradition.
