Be amazed by the wisteria trellis, said to be over 400 years old! In spring, pale purple flowers bloom wildly, creating a fantastical scene.
Tamashiki Jinja is a historic shrine located in Kasukabe City, Saitama Prefecture. Legend says it was founded in 703 AD (Taiho 3). It's the head shrine of Kuisuzu Jinja shrines in the Mogara River basin. The shrine boasts a wisteria trellis said to be over 400 years old, which explodes with flowers in spring, creating a magical atmosphere. The trellis is located in Tamashiki Park, adjacent to the east side of the shrine. This expansive park features various wisteria varieties in full bloom. The best time to see the wisteria is from late April to early May, when many tourists visit. Besides wisteria, you can enjoy the scenery throughout the seasons, with a large ginkgo tree and hydrangeas also gracing the grounds. Tamashiki Jinja holds a Spring Grand Festival on May 5th each year, featuring kagura (sacred music and dance) performances and a wisteria festival. A New Year's festival, kagura performances, and a daruma (traditional Japanese doll) market are held on February 1st, where you can purchase daruma and watch the dedication dance. Tamashiki Jinja is a highly recommended sightseeing spot where you can experience history and nature.
