Hanazono Hananuki Prefectural Natural Park, located in northern Ibaraki Prefecture, encompasses a vast area of approximately 25,000 hectares, making it the largest natural park or national park in the prefecture. It includes the mountainous region of the Tagayama mountains, valleys such as Hanazono Valley, and coastal areas such as Gooura Coast.
The Tagayama mountains preserve precious natural elements, including primeval beech forests, rhododendron groves, and skunk cabbage colonies, perfect for hiking and trekking.
The valley areas, such as Hanazono Valley, Ohkita Valley, and Hananuki Valley, offer stunning views of clear streams and cliffs. The vibrant green of the trees in spring and the fiery reds and yellows of autumn foliage create beautiful scenery throughout the year.
Gooura Coast boasts a quintessential Japanese seascape, characterized by dramatic sea cliffs and unique rock formations. It's also known as the place where Okakura Tenshin spent his later years, with historical structures such as the Rokkakudo (hexagonal hall) and his former residence still standing.
Hanazono Hananuki Prefectural Natural Park is a highly recommended tourist destination where you can fully immerse yourself in nature and history. Be sure to visit!
