Tachi-mata Gorge, located in Kitaakita City, Akita Prefecture, is famous for its beauty during the fresh green spring and the vibrant autumn foliage. Within the gorge are three magnificent waterfalls: Ichinotaki (38m drop), Ninotaki (20m drop), and the spectacular Kohei-taki (108m drop). Visitors can fully immerse themselves in the grandeur of nature. Kohei-taki, in particular, is breathtaking with its impressive 108-meter plunge, captivating all who witness its power. Well-maintained trails along the gorge offer opportunities for enjoyable trekking. Access to Tachi-mata Gorge is possible by car, plane, or train. By car: Approximately 70 minutes from the Takadate IC on the Akita Expressway. By plane: Approximately 80 minutes by taxi from Odate-Noshiro Airport. By train: Approximately 30 minutes by taxi from Ani-Matagi Station on the Akita Inland Line. Tachi-mata Gorge is a nature-rich area offering seasonal beauty. Spring showcases vibrant greenery, summer provides refreshing breezes, autumn boasts breathtaking fall colors, and winter offers stunning snow-covered landscapes. When visiting Tachi-mata Gorge, we recommend wearing comfortable shoes and clothing. Be aware that bears may be present in the area.
