A beautiful waterfall located in the Hanamaki Onsenkyo hot spring resort, featured in the literary works of Kenji Miyazawa. A well-maintained walking path makes for a pleasant stroll.
Kamabuchi Falls is a scenic spot in Hanamaki City, Iwate Prefecture, associated with Kenji Miyazawa. Designated a Place of Scenic Beauty by the Japanese government in March 2005, it truly embodies the landscape of Ihatov (Miyazawa's fictional land). Located about a 10-minute walk from Hanamaki Onsen and featuring an observation platform, access is excellent. A walking path of about 15 minutes encircles the falls, allowing you to fully enjoy the abundant nature. Kamabuchi Falls boasts an impressive sight: a cascade of clear water, splitting into numerous streams like a beaded curtain, flowing down a large rock 8.5 meters high and 30 meters wide. It is said that the name comes from the rock's shape resembling an inverted cooking pot. Kenji Miyazawa depicted Kamabuchi Falls in his work, "Daigawa." In his writing, he poetically expressed both the beauty of the falls and the powerful force of the flowing water. When visiting Kamabuchi Falls, imagine Kenji Miyazawa's literary works and feel the beauty and power of nature.
