A magnificent waterfall representing the Shiretoko Peninsula!
Oshinkoshin Falls, named after the Ainu word "O-shunku-ush," meaning "a place where Yezo spruce trees grow downstream," is known as a representative waterfall of the Shiretoko Peninsula. Originating from the western slope of Enonbetsu-dake mountain in the central part of the peninsula, the falls cascade down the Charassenai River. With a 50-meter drop and a width of about 20 meters, its grand appearance, splitting into two impressive streams along the rock strata, is overwhelmingly impressive to visitors. You can climb stairs from the parking lot to the middle of the falls to experience the roaring sound up close. The old National Route 334 runs above the falls, offering a breathtaking view of the falls overlooking the Okhotsk Sea. Oshinkoshin Falls is counted as one of the "Eight Views of Shiretoko" and is also selected as one of the "Top 100 Waterfalls of Japan." With a parking lot, public restrooms, and shops nearby, you can enjoy your sightseeing with peace of mind.
