Overview
Shiretoko Goko are a group of over 30 small lakes and ponds formed by the Bandai-san volcanic eruption in 1888. The five most famous lakes, known as "Iko" through "Goko," each exhibit a unique character, earning them the nickname "Goshiki-numa" (Five-colored Ponds). Shades of green, red, blue, and white create a breathtaking tapestry of colors harmonizing with the surrounding forest. Well-maintained trails allow visitors to leisurely explore and appreciate the beauty of Goshiki-numa. Keep an eye out for wildlife like Ezo squirrels and Ezo deer along the way. However, please be aware of the presence of brown bears. Shiretoko Goko is a place that soothes the soul with its majestic natural beauty and tranquility; it offers a special experience where you can feel at one with nature.
