A beautiful marsh where seasonal flowers such as Japanese cotton grass (watasuge) and Japanese fire lilies (renge-tsutsuji) bloom in profusion, with the majestic Mount Chokai as a backdrop.
Kusanoki-dai Marsh is a nationally designated historical site located on the eastern foot of Mount Chokai, and is part of the Chokai National Park. It covers an area of approximately 8 hectares and is located at an altitude of 690 meters. The marsh is said to have been formed by a rock avalanche from Mount Chokai, and traces of this event remain to this day. Many plants, including Japanese cotton grass and Japanese fire lilies, inhabit the marsh. In early June, the Japanese fire lilies bloom profusely, creating a stunning scene of an orange carpet. The marsh is also surrounded by a forest of beech trees and deciduous shrubs, allowing you to experience abundant nature. Kusanoki-dai Marsh is popular as a spot where you can fully enjoy nature, thanks to the beautiful contrast between Mount Chokai and the flowers. Boardwalks are laid out within the marsh, making it easy to walk and suitable for families with young children. While a 3-kilometer forest road must be walked from the parking lot to the marsh, a shuttle bus operates from late May to early June.
