Experience the grandeur of Mount Chokai up close, surrounded by vast pampas grass fields and the beauty of a serene pond.
Fuyushi Wetland, one of the best viewpoints for Mount Chokai in the Chokai Highland at the foot of Mount Chokai, is a breathtaking place featuring expansive pampas grass fields and the picturesque Fūgatani-chi Tameike pond nestled within. The wetland lies within a landscape of ‘nagareyama’ (alluvial hills) formed approximately 2,500 years ago by a massive landslide from Mount Chokai, with numerous ponds and marshes scattered throughout. Autumn, during the pampas grass season, is particularly spectacular, with golden fields swaying in the wind against the backdrop of Mount Chokai, creating a truly magnificent sight. Spring brings a vibrant display of wetland plants, such as skunk cabbage and bog arum, adding to the beauty of the fresh greenery. Summer offers a refreshing landscape of lush greenery, while winter reveals a stunning, serene snowscape. While a short walk from the parking lot is required, the observation deck provides unparalleled views of Mount Chokai and the wetland. Fuyushi Wetland is a nature lover's paradise, perfect for a relaxing stroll. However, access to the wetland is difficult during winter due to heavy snowfall.
