The Shizuoka Prefecture Mount Fuji World Heritage Center offers a multifaceted exploration of the wonders of Mount Fuji, a registered World Heritage site.
In 2013, Mount Fuji was registered as a World Cultural Heritage site under the name "Mount Fuji—an object of faith and source of artistic inspiration."
This World Heritage Center was established to widely communicate the value of Mount Fuji as a World Cultural Heritage site and to serve as a hub for research and education related to Mount Fuji.
The center was designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Shigeru Ban.
Its distinctive appearance features a striking wooden lattice reminiscent of an inverted Mount Fuji. When reflected in the pond in front of the entrance, the building appears as a "right-side-up" Fuji.
Inside, you can easily learn about the formation, history, culture, and ecosystem of Mount Fuji through the latest video technology, models, and interactive exhibits.
For example, there are exhibits where you can observe the changes in the natural environment and flora and fauna at different altitudes of Mount Fuji while ascending a spiral slope, and exhibits where you can virtually experience climbing Mount Fuji using VR.
The top floor features an observation hall offering a panoramic view of the majestic Mount Fuji.
On a clear day, you can enjoy views not only of Mount Fuji but also of Suruga Bay and the Suruga Plain.
The museum shop offers a variety of souvenirs and books related to Mount Fuji.
It's also a great place to find souvenirs from your Mount Fuji climbing trip.
The Shizuoka Prefecture Mount Fuji World Heritage Center is highly recommended for those who want to learn more about Mount Fuji and fully enjoy its magnificence.
