Tanuki Lake is a lake approximately 3.3km in circumference and 8m deep, located in Fujinomiya City, Shizuoka Prefecture. Originally a small marshland known as Tanuki-numa or Tanuki-numa, it was artificially expanded in 1935 (Showa 10) by constructing a dam to secure agricultural water. Tanuki Lake is renowned for its stunning views of Mount Fuji. The magnificent contrast of the majestic Mount Fuji, the clear blue sky, and the lush greenery captivates visitors. A well-maintained promenade allows for leisurely strolls along the lakeshore. The lake also offers various activities, including fishing, boating, canoeing, and cycling. Particularly, around the 20th of April and August, many photographers and tourists flock to witness the 'Diamond Fuji,' a spectacular sunrise view of the sun rising directly behind Mount Fuji's peak. The lake beautifully reflects Mount Fuji, and in the clear winter air, you can even see a snow-covered 'Sakasa Fuji' (inverted Fuji). Tanuki Lake is a highly recommended sightseeing spot where you can connect with nature and relax. There are also campsites, onsen (hot spring) facilities, and restaurants in the surrounding area, making it a great place to spend a whole day. Be sure to visit Tanuki Lake and fully experience the grandeur of Mount Fuji and its beautiful natural surroundings.
