A scenic forest road offering majestic views of Mount Fuji.
The Yu no Oku Inogashira Forest Road connects Yu no Oku in Minami-Koma District, Minobu Town, Yamanashi Prefecture, to Inogashira in Fujinomiya City, Shizuoka Prefecture. This approximately 20km-long road starts from Yu no Oku village in Yamanashi Prefecture, accessible via Prefectural Road 415 after passing Shimobe Onsen. The road ends at Inogashira Pass (Shimobe Pass), which marks the prefectural border and is pierced by the Yu no Oku Inogashira Tunnel. This pass sits midway between Mount Kenashi and Choja-ga-take mountains in the Tennyo mountain range. On the Shizuoka Prefecture side, there's a designated paragliding launch site. The road boasts exceptional views of Mount Fuji, earning it first place in the "Best View Route" category awarded by the Japan Forest Road Association. From the road, you can view the western side of Mount Fuji, including the impressive Oosawa Kuzure (large landslide) – a massive fissure extending from near the summit. This landslide is a result of past volcanic activity, and its sheer scale is truly awe-inspiring. The Yu no Oku Inogashira Forest Road is perfect for driving and touring. While the road is narrow with many curves, requiring caution, the experience of driving while enjoying the magnificent scenery is unparalleled. Several parking areas and rest stops are conveniently located along the road, allowing you to pause and soak in the breathtaking views.
