A breathtaking sight of approximately 200,000 moss phlox in full bloom!
Uonuma Moss Phlox Park, located in Negoya, Uonuma City, Niigata Prefecture, is a vast park boasting approximately 200,000 moss phlox plants. Created with the theme of establishing a Uonuma Satoyama (rural landscape) park, this park explodes with color in spring, showcasing red, pink, white, and purple moss phlox creating a stunning carpet of flowers. The view of the Echigo Sanzan mountains with the moss phlox in the foreground makes for an unforgettable photo opportunity. In spring, yellow butterbur sprouts emerge from the melting snow, while purple katakuri and shojo-bakama sway gently in the soft sunlight. As the beech trees don their vibrant green foliage, yukiguni-mitsuba-tsutsuji, renge-tsutsuji, and yama-tsutsuji azaleas bloom in succession, painting the mountainside with a kaleidoscope of color. In early summer, you can witness the magical sight of fireflies along the Kurumi River. At the dragonfly pond, the white eggs of the Japanese tree frog hatch into tadpoles, launching a flurry of new life as the world's smallest dragonfly, the Hacho-utonbo, makes its appearance. Autumn brings a breathtaking display of color as the oak and beech trees turn yellow, while the lacquer trees and Japanese rowan trees blaze with red. Ginseng and persimmons ripen, adding to the autumnal bounty. Experience the ever-changing beauty of the Uonuma Satoyama throughout the four seasons. The park features a moss phlox field, a dragonfly pond, and an observation deck, providing ample opportunities for leisurely strolls. With ample parking available, it's easily accessible by car.
