A tranquil mausoleum where Emperor Meiji rests. Spend some peaceful time surrounded by history and nature.
Fushimi Momoyama Mausoleum was completed on September 11, 1913 (Taisho 1), after Emperor Meiji passed away on July 30, 1912 (Meiji 45). In accordance with Emperor Meiji's wishes, it was built on the site of the former main keep of Fushimi Castle, constructed by Toyotomi Hideyoshi. The mausoleum, an upper-circular, lower-square tumulus, is surrounded by lush greenery. The approach to the mausoleum is lined with historic stone paving, creating a quiet and solemn atmosphere. Fushimi Momoyama Mausoleum offers a place to reflect on Emperor Meiji's life and achievements, while also providing a tranquil space surrounded by history and nature. Nearby attractions include the remains of Fushimi Momoyama Castle and Fushimi Inari Shrine, making it a worthwhile destination to explore these sites as well.
