Koriyama Castle, built in 1580 by Tsutsui Junkei, was the largest castle in Yamato Province. Later, Toyotomi Hidetsugu became the lord, further developing the castle. He resided there from 1585 to 1591, governing and promoting culture. Koriyama Castle played a significant role in the Toyotomi regime.
While the main keep no longer exists, the central areas including the castle keep base, Bishamongaku, and Hoingaku are designated as Nara Prefecture historical sites. The inner moat and stone walls are well-preserved. Recently, gates and turrets such as the Otemon Gate, Otemuke Yagu, and Higashi-sumi Yagu have been restored, allowing visitors to imagine its former grandeur.
