A shrine boasting stunning spring scenery with carpets of katakuri and Ezo-engosaku flowers.
Overview
Urausujinja Shrine is located in Urausu-cho, Hokkaido, in the Sorachi Subprefecture. Its former rank was that of a village shrine (Murasha). In Meiji 31 (1898), Shisutaro Tomonari donated 9.9 hectares of land, and the shrine was completed in 1910. While initially without official ranking, a new honden (main hall) and heiden (offering hall) were built in 1917, elevating its status to Murasha. The enshrined deities are Honoda Wake no Mikoto and Okuninushi no Mikoto. The shrine grounds are known for their large populations of katakuri and Ezo-engosaku flowers, creating a beautiful spectacle in spring. You might also be lucky enough to spot small animals like Siberian chipmunks and foxes. Nearby attractions include Michi-no-Eki Tsurunuma and Tsurunuma Park. Urausujinja Shrine offers a peaceful and tranquil atmosphere, a welcome respite from the hustle and bustle of city life. Take your time to stroll through the grounds and enjoy the beauty of each season.
By car - 5-minute walk from Michi-no-Eki Tsurunuma along National Route 275 (there is no parking at the shrine, so please use the parking lot at Michi-no-Eki).
While the nearest train station used to be JR Gakuen-toshi (Shinanuma) Line's Tsurunuma Station (about a 10-minute walk), the section between Hokkaido Medical University Station and Shintotsukawa Station was closed on May 7, 2020. To reach the shrine by train, you would now need to take the Urausu Town-operated bus, "Shin-Urausu Line," from Naietsu Station on the Hakodate Main Line, and get off at the "Tsurunuma Koen" bus stop (in front of Michi-no-Eki Tsurunuma). From there, it's a short walk. Show route
