By Public Transportation:
Take the Chuo Bus from the Sapporo Terminal bound for either "Sapporo-Atsuta Line (Mikuni Road Station 'Airoro Atsuta')" or "Ishikari Line (Tomen Danchi)". The trip takes approximately one hour. Get off at the "Yausuba" bus stop. Turn right at the traffic light before the Ishikari River-mouth Bridge and walk for 10 minutes.
*Note: While the "Ishikari Line (Ishikari-bound)" also stops at "Yausuba," it is further from the bog. We recommend using the "Sapporo-Atsuta Line (Mikuni Road Station 'Airoro Atsuta')" or "Ishikari Line (Tomen Danchi)" instead. Show route

INFO
There are four parking areas, but only one restroom. A wheelchair-accessible ramp allows access to the boardwalk.
Makunbetsu Bog is a roughly 130-hectare low-lying bog situated in the meandering lower reaches of the Ishikari River. The area offers a tranquil and beautiful landscape, shaped by the rich waters of the Ishikari River and the surrounding natural environment.
In spring, the bog is ablaze with delicate skunk cabbage, forming one of Hokkaido's most impressive colonies. The white, petal-like parts are actually leaves, surrounding the small yellow spadix (flower). The skunk cabbage's flower language is "purity" and "grandeur," perfectly embodying the beauty of the bog.
The bog is home to a variety of plants, including alder forests and reed beds, with the songs of many birds filling the air.
A 1.5-kilometer walking trail runs along the embankment of the Ishikari River-mouth Bridge, offering an up-close view of the skunk cabbage. A boardwalk also winds through the bog, allowing for a closer look at this unique plant. You can also enjoy stunning views of the Ishikari River and the distant mountains, creating a relaxing and natural oasis.
Makunbetsu Bog is the perfect place to escape the hustle and bustle of city life and reconnect with nature. Come and experience the breath of spring!
