Takase Dam is Japan's second-tallest rockfill dam, after the Kurobe Dam, and its majestic presence is truly breathtaking.
Takase Dam is a hydroelectric power dam managed by Tokyo Electric Power Company Renewable Power, Inc., located in Omachi City, Nagano Prefecture. It's the second tallest rockfill dam in Japan, after the Kurobe Dam (on the Kurobe River) in Toyama Prefecture, standing at a magnificent 176 meters tall. The artificial lake created by the dam is called the Takase Dam Reservoir, with no common name. Located within the Chubu Sangaku National Park, Takase Dam, much like the Kurobe Dam, is inaccessible by private car. From Shikukura Sanso lodge, access is only by designated taxi or on foot (approximately 1.5 to 2 hours). The view from Takase Dam is simply stunning. The emerald green lake, the snow-capped Northern Alps, and the dam itself create an awe-inspiring vista. A viewing platform at the top of the dam offers ample opportunity to soak in the scenery. Nearby attractions include Shichikura Dam, Omachi Dam, and the Omachi City Energy Museum, allowing visitors to explore Japan's leading power generation area. Also nearby is the secluded hot spring resort, Yumata Onsen Seiran-so. Yumata Onsen serves as a key base camp for climbers ascending the north face of Yarigatake or Noguchi-Goro-take mountains. It's a 2.5-hour walk from Takase Dam. Takase Dam is a breathtaking testament to the combined forces of nature and human ingenuity, leaving a lasting impression on all who visit.
