Don't miss the spectacular spring scenery of approximately 1,200 cherry blossoms in full bloom!
Showa-ike Park is a tranquil and serene park nestled in the mountains of Kutsunami, Kokuraminami Ward, Kitakyushu City. In spring, approximately 1,200 cherry trees burst into bloom, painting the pond's edge in a vibrant pink. During cherry blossom season, the park comes alive with many visitors enjoying the hanami (cherry blossom viewing). Showa-ike Park boasts a rich history. Construction of a reservoir dam began before the war to secure agricultural water, but was interrupted by World War II. Reconstruction began in the Showa era (1926-1989) and resulted in modern concrete banks and a dam. Afterward, local residents planted approximately 1,000 cherry trees, and today, the Kitakyushu City government maintains the park. Well-maintained walking paths wind through the park, perfect for strolling and enjoying the forest atmosphere (shinrin-yoku). Benches and tables are conveniently located by the pond, making it ideal for a picnic lunch. From the observation deck, you can enjoy a panoramic view of Showa-ike Pond and the surrounding mountains, a truly majestic sight. Showa-ike Park offers a peaceful escape surrounded by nature, providing the perfect environment for relaxation and rejuvenation. You can appreciate the beauty of the changing seasons, with cherry blossoms in spring and autumn leaves in fall, making it a picturesque destination year-round.
