Myokokuji Temple is an ancient Nichiren Buddhist temple in Hyuga City, founded in 1342 (Kōei 1). While the original buildings are unfortunately no longer extant, the temple has undergone several renovations to reach its current form. Myokokuji Temple houses many precious cultural assets that tell its history and rich culture. Above all, the "Myokokuji Temple Garden," designated as a Place of Scenic Beauty, is a must-see. The Myokokuji Temple Garden harmoniously blends ponds, an island, rock formations, artificial hills, and plantings, creating a serene and elegant landscape. According to temple tradition, the best view of the garden is from the veranda on the south side of the main hall. Viewing the garden from the veranda is breathtakingly beautiful, offering a peaceful and calming experience. Myokokuji Temple is a place of tranquility, perfect for finding peace and relaxation.
