Iwayadera Temple is a Soto Zen Buddhist temple located in Yamashina Ward, Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture. Situated in a valley along the Yamashina River, it's known as "Yamashina's Iwaya" (Yamashina's rock cave). Legend says it was founded by Kūkai (also known as Kobo Daishi), a renowned Buddhist monk, in the early Heian period.
