Hōzanji Temple

Overview

Hōzanji Temple is a Shingon sect temple located on the eastern edge of the Nara Basin. Legend says it was founded in 821 AD by the great monk Kūkai (Kobo Daishi). The temple grounds house statues of Kūkai and numerous other Buddhist images. A highlight is the stunning observation deck offering panoramic views of Nara city.
