Gappu Park is a large city park located in Aomori City, Aomori Prefecture, overlooking the beautiful Aomori Bay. The park features cherry blossom avenues, walking paths, grassy areas, a baseball field, and more, serving as a beloved recreational space for local residents.
Gappu Park boasts a rich history, with its development beginning in the Meiji era under the direction of Mamoru Mizuhara, a gardener from the former Hirosaki clan. While Mizuhara poured his heart and soul into creating the park, he passed away before its completion. His younger brother, Juro Kakizaki, carried on his brother's legacy, completing the park's development and donating it to Aomori-machi (present-day Aomori City).
Known as a celebrated cherry blossom viewing spot, Gappu Park sees approximately 700 cherry trees in full bloom during the spring. The park is bustling with tourists during cherry blossom season, enjoying the breathtaking scenery.
Gappu Park is also a popular swimming beach. Many citizens enjoy swimming here during the summer months.
Gappu Park is a park that can be enjoyed year-round. From the cherry blossoms of spring and swimming in summer, to the autumn foliage and walking skiing in winter, visitors can experience the beauty of each season.
Gappu Park is easily accessible from the center of Aomori City, making it a must-visit destination during your travels.
