Overview
Happy Valley is a historic walking path in Karuizawa, loved by many throughout the Meiji, Taisho, Showa, Heisei, and Reiwa eras. It's said that missionaries were so impressed by its beauty that they named it "Happy Valley." Located behind the Hotel de Manten, it's characterized by a sloping path lined with moss-covered stone walls and cobblestones. Nestled within a serene villa district, it's the perfect place to escape the city noise and enjoy a leisurely walk. The renowned novelist Kawabata Yasunari is said to have had a villa here. The walking path is relatively gently sloped, but the cobblestones can be slippery, so comfortable shoes are recommended. Extra caution is advised after rain. Happy Valley offers a naturally tranquil setting, ideal for mind and body rejuvenation. Be sure to visit when you're in Karuizawa.
