COMICO ART MUSEUM YUFUIN is located in the heart of Yufuin's onsen (hot spring) town. Designed by world-renowned architect Kengo Kuma, its modern structure seamlessly integrates with the surrounding natural beauty, captivating visitors with its sophisticated design. The museum's exterior is clad in black yakisugi (charred cedar wood), a traditional Japanese building material that beautifully complements Yufuin's rich natural landscape and develops a unique patina over time. The interior is a bright, open space filled with natural light, enhancing the beauty of the contemporary art pieces on display.
The collection includes works by leading contemporary artists such as Yayoi Kusama, Takashi Murakami, Tatsuo Miyajima, and Hiroshi Sugimoto. Each artist's unique style allows for a truly immersive experience in the world of contemporary art.
A comfortable lounge on the second floor offers stunning views of Mount Yufu, with a large dog sculpture, 'Your Dog,' by Yoshitomo Nara as a captivating centerpiece. This relaxing space provides the perfect opportunity to unwind and appreciate the majestic scenery of Yufuin after exploring the museum's art.
