A charming wooden station building serving as the gateway to Yufuin Onsen. The retro atmosphere of the station building captivates tourists.
Yufuin Station is a station on the Kyushu Railway Company (JR Kyushu) Kyudai Main Line located in Kawakita, Yufu-shi, Yufuin-cho, Oita Prefecture. It serves as a hub for the Yufuin area, which includes Yufuin Onsen and other tourist attractions. It's the station with the highest number of passengers in Yufu City, and all trains, including the limited express trains "Yufu" and "Yufuin no Mori," stop here. Yufuin Station is characterized by its wooden station building that blends seamlessly into the scenic town of Yufuin. Designed in 1990 by Oita-born architect Kisho Kurokawa, the station building is designed in the image of a chapel, with a black-lacquered wooden exterior. The central part features a 12-meter-high atrium concourse, adjacent to a waiting room that also functions as an event hall aimed at fostering exchange between tourists and local culture. It has a unique structure without ticket gates. A tourist information center and an *ashtub* (foot bath) are located within the station building, allowing you to make the most of your waiting time. The *ashtub* is located at the end of platform 1, heading towards Hita. A separate ticket for the *ashtub* (160 yen for adults, 80 yen for children) is required in addition to your train ticket. You can also enjoy the magnificent natural scenery with views of Mount Yufu from the station building. Mount Yufu is an active volcano with an elevation of 1,583 meters, and its beautiful form has earned it the nickname "Bungo Fuji." Yufuin Station is a charming station that harmoniously blends a retro atmosphere with modern elements. It's not just an access point to Yufuin Onsen; it's a memorable place for tourists.
