A historic temple with ties to Takeda Shingen, boasting a beautiful moss-covered pathway and a serene karesansui (dry landscape) garden.
Jion-ji Temple is a historic temple of the Rinzai sect, Kencho-ji branch, founded during the Kamakura period. Its founder was Issan Ichinei, and it became a prominent temple in Shinano Province. Takeda Shingen deeply respected the seventh-generation head priest, Tenkei Gencho Zenji, and the temple crest is the Takeda crest. The temple grounds house numerous cultural assets, including a bronze bell cast in 1368 (Oan 1) and the main hall rebuilt in 1808 (Bunka 5). In particular, the moss-covered pathway and the karesansui garden offer a tranquil atmosphere, allowing visitors to enjoy a leisurely stroll while immersing themselves in history. A standing statue of Amitabha Tathagata, crafted by Mokujiki, is another highlight. Jion-ji Temple is a peaceful place surrounded by history and nature. We encourage you to visit.
