Obi Castle's history begins in 1601 (Keicho 6), when Ito Suetake entered Obi Castle. The Ito clan, one of the largest vassals of the Satsuma domain, held 110,000 koku of rice, and Obi Castle flourished as the center of its castle town. Originally, Obi Castle comprised a honmaru (main keep), ninomaru (second bailey), sannomaru (third bailey), and a castle town. The castle town bustled with samurai residences, townspeople's houses, and shops. Today, Obi Castle is preserved as a castle ruin, with remaining structures such as stone walls, moats, and gates. Samurai residences and townspeople's houses are also preserved in the castle town, allowing visitors to imagine the atmosphere of the past. Obi Castle is a popular tourist destination where you can experience history and culture. Immerse yourself in the atmosphere of a bygone castle town as you explore Obi Castle's history.
