Overview

Mihara Castle Ruins are located in Mihara City, Hiroshima Prefecture. Built by Takaie Kobayakawa, it's known as a sea castle due to its location on the Seto Inland Sea. Kobayakawa was the third son of Motonari Mori and served as a retainer of Hideyoshi Toyotomi. Mihara Castle was the largest castle built by Takaie Kobayakawa, and a castle town was also developed. However, Kobayakawa was later transferred to Iyo and then Chikuzen provinces. After him, the castle was ruled by Masanori Fukushima and Nagamasa Asano. After the Meiji Restoration, Mihara Castle was abandoned, but the tenshu platform, stone walls, and moats remain, allowing visitors to imagine its former glory. Mihara Castle Ruins are one of the leading historical sites in Hiroshima Prefecture, offering an enjoyable experience for history buffs and casual visitors alike. The moss-covered stone walls are particularly beautiful and perfect for photography. There are also museums and archives related to Mihara Castle in the surrounding area for those who want to learn more about its history.
