The Old Nakajima Family Residence is a designated Important Cultural Property of Japan, a masterpiece of early Showa-era modern Japanese architecture located in Ota City, Gunma Prefecture. It was built by Chikuhei Nakajima, the founder of Nakajima Aircraft Company, for his parents in their hometown.
Standing on a 10,000-square-meter plot of land, the residence boasts lavish decorations, including stunning stained glass and chandeliers. The stained glass, in particular, showcases the cutting-edge technology of its time and is a must-see. The expansive front yard visible from the rooms and the imposing porte-cochère for welcoming guests highlight its palatial features.
Highly acclaimed as a masterpiece of modern Japanese architecture, the Old Nakajima Family Residence was designated an Important Cultural Property of Japan on July 25, 2016. A portion of the building is now used as a community center, and it's open to the public for viewing.
