The Former Nozaki Residence was the home of Nozaki Busawemon, who established a "salt kingdom" by developing large-scale salt fields in the late Edo period. The approximately 3,000-tsubo (approximately 9,917 square meters) site features a main house complex spanning roughly 1,000 tsubo (approximately 3,306 square meters) and six storehouses, offering a glimpse into the lives of wealthy merchants of that time. The main house boasts a stunning design, including a central room offering a view of nine other rooms, showcasing the luxurious lifestyle of the era. The kitchen displays tools used in the salt fields, allowing visitors to imagine the salt-making process. Materials and historical information about salt production are also available for viewing, offering an educational experience on the history of the salt industry. An affiliated salt industry history museum and a "salt-making experience hall" offers free salt-making workshops (reservations required). The recreated salt field garden and teahouse are also highlights.
The Former Nozaki Residence is a popular filming location for movies and dramas, recently gaining attention as a filming location for "Misteri to iu Wakare." Fans of the film should definitely visit.
