The Ohashi Residence is the former home of the wealthy Ohashi family during the Edo period and is designated as an Important Cultural Property of Japan. The residence of a landowner who made their fortune from the development of rice paddies and salt fields, it was built between 1796 and 1799 (Kansei 7-10). This Machiya-style building features Kurashiki's unique architectural style, with white plastered walls, tiled roofs, and Kurashiki latticework, offering a glimpse into the lifestyle and culture of that era. Period furnishings and household items are on display, allowing visitors to imagine the daily life of the time. The residence also boasts a beautiful Japanese garden, providing a tranquil atmosphere for a relaxing visit. Kurashiki River flows next to the residence, offering lovely views. Located in the Kurashiki Bikan Historical Quarter, the Ohashi Residence is conveniently situated for combining with other sightseeing spots.
