Matsuyama General Park is an urban oasis boasting lush greenery and stunning scenery. From the observatory, you can enjoy breathtaking views of Matsuyama Castle and the city.
Overview
Matsuyama General Park is a vast urban park located in Matsuyama City, Ehime Prefecture. Situated on the western side of the city, on the Ominegatai plateau to the west of Mount Shiroyama (Katsuyama), construction began in 1983, with all facilities completed in 1999. The park features a European-style castle-like observatory offering 360-degree views, an urban environmental learning center, plazas, playgrounds, flower gardens, and stunning views of the Seto Inland Sea, Matsuyama plain, and Matsuyama Castle. In August 2022, it was certified as a Japan Night View Heritage site (Natural Night View Heritage), and the observation plaza offers a panoramic view of the city's nightscape, including the illuminated Matsuyama Castle.
While pets are generally prohibited within the park, a dog run was established in 2014. The Matsuyama Bonsai Festival is held every spring and autumn in the park's third parking lot.
In March 2024, "Hapimaru no Oka" (Hapimaru Hill), a facility dedicated to promoting animal welfare, opened within the park. Ehime Prefecture and Matsuyama City are strongly committed to animal welfare, and this facility focuses on animal welfare and coexistence with humans.
Matsuyama General Park is a beloved spot for people to connect with nature and refresh their minds and bodies. Enjoy the views from the observatory, playtime in the playground, the vibrant flowers—there's something for everyone. Be sure to visit!
